Seventh grade will write an original opera for performance by the Kindergarten class in the spring.
Play recorders in grades 3 - 6 with ability to read basic notes of the musical scale and with the correct rhythm.
GRADE K - 3

CONTENT/SKILLS
Melody - singing in unison, working for blend and being on pitch, singing in solo and/or groups. Reading basic notes on treble clef staff.
Rhythm - keeping basic beat, learning note values and how to determine meter in music.
Learn harmony by use of singing in round and use of ostinato and instrumental accompaniment.
Learn the “architecture” of a song with the study of the use of refrain and verse in music.
Identify tone color of voices and instruments of bands and orchestras.
Study the music of other cultures by listening, singing to the music of such.
Become aware of sounds being high and low, loud and soft through various listening exercises.
Studying the music of other cultures by listening to and singing the music of such countries.
Begin to learn basic skills to play the recorder. (Grade 3)

Melody - singing in unison, working for blend and being on pitch through singing in solo and in groups.
Continuing the study of note reading in the treble clef.
Rhythm - keeping a basic beat, learning to write various basic notes and their values in measures.
Learning to discern meter in two and three through listening and by identifying meter signatures.
Learning harmony by using ostinato, descant, rounds, singing in thirds.
Learning the form or plan of a piece of music by means of ABA. AB. PR Rondo form plans, refrain and verse.
Identifying and recognizing instruments of the orchestra by sight and dentifying voices (SATB) by sight and sound.
Studying the music of other cultures by listening to and singing the music of such countries.
Expand the skills of playing the recorder that began in Grade 3.
Learn the use of the voice in cantering for liturgies.
Learn the use of the microphone in singing and announcing at liturgies.

Rhythm - keep a basic beat, writing measures using different note values. Learning meters in 2,3,4 and 6.
Learning harmony - ostinato, descant, 4 part (SATB) in thirds, sixths, etc.
Learning form in music - verse, refrain, call and response, ABA, AB, Rondo.
Identifying and recognizing instruments of the orchestra by sight and sound.
Identifying (SATB) voices by sound and applying to own voices.
Studying the music of other cultures by listening to and singing the music of such countries.
Learning basic music appreciation by studying the various composers and styles of music in different time periods.
Creating an original opera for Kindergarten class Spring Program. (Grade 7)
