GRADE 2
 
Goals:

1. Students will create 2-D and 3-D art.

4. Students will know how artists are influenced by their culture.
5. Students will learn to analyze and compare works of art.
6. Students will make comparisons of different artist’s medium.
7. Students will bring reflections of their experiences in their environment to class discussions on artworks.

Goals:

2. Students will learn the principles of design.
3. Students will learn how themes and symbols from other cultures have influenced the artists in our culture.
4. Students will use art terminology to analyze works of art.
5. Students will understand why we place value on art they have created.
6. Students will understand shapes have form.

3. Learn simple printmaking.
4. Identify warm and cool colors.
5. Learn intermediate colors.
6. Plan the composition of a picture using foreground, background and horizon line.

9. Produce art using balance, contrast, pattern and rhythm.
10. Identify positive and negative spaces.
11. Create a pinch pot using clay and glazes.

GRADE 4
 
Goals:

1. Students will produce a variety of 2-D and 3-D works of art that will communicate ideas using three of the elements of art.
2. Students will identify the principles of design an artist has used to create art.
3. Students will learn how symbols ad themes in art from select countries and cultures have influenced artists in our culture.
4. Students will know how to look at art and understand it.
5. Students will know that personal observation is a source for ideas and inspiration.
6. Students will develop a positive feeling about the art they have created.
7. Students will explore different art materials to learn their characteristics.

2. Lean how to use pattern, rhythm and variety to create art expressively.
3. Create and correctly label a color wheel with the primary, secondary, and intermediate colors.
4. Learn to make multiple prints.
5. Learn to draw a body using correct proportion and placement of facial features.
6. Know what contemporary art is.
7. Learn diminishing perspective.
8. Learn the method of coil construction using clay.

GRADE 5
 
Goals:

1. Students will produce a variety of 2-D and 3-D art that communicate ideas for specific purposes.
2. Students will define the elements of art and how they are used with the principles of design to plan and create artwork.
3. Students will use the principles of design.
4. Students will learn about major historical works of art from select time periods.
5. Students will know how to discuss works of art using proper art terminology.
6. Students will learn to categorize artist’s works by art styles.
7. Students will learn to develop their art from the idea stage to a finished piece of art.

GRADE 6

1. Students will use a variety of processes to create 2-D and 3-D artworks that communicate ideas.
2. Students will create art using symbols and themes from select countries and cultures.
3. Students will learn about major historical works of art from select time periods.
4. Students will identify and apply the elements of art and the principles of design when creating art.
5. Students will learn there are a variety of art related career opportunities.
6. Students will know how to compare and contrast different artist’s styles.
7. Students will use the correct art vocabulary and terminology that is appropriate for this grade level.

2. Students will examine how cultures and religion have influenced major works of art from select artists and time periods.
3. Students will explain their preference for specific works of art using proper art vocabulary, and their knowledge of the elements of art and principles of design.
4. Students will learn there are a variety of art related career opportunities.
5. Students will explore artworks in historical perspective, and gain a greater appreciation for what is of value in an artwork.
6. Students will learn how to evaluate their art and make decisions on what they would do to improve the work of art.
7. Students will study a range of subject matter, symbols, and ideas.

3. Students will examine different styles of art to form and explain personal opinions in response to the art presented.
4. Students will explain how an artist has used the expressive qualities of the elements and principles of design to affect the viewer.
5. Students will demonstrate skillful use of the principles of design in their artworks.
6. Students will study a range of subject matter, symbols, and ideas.
7. Students will know how to evaluate their artwork.
