    In Religion, students will:

    1. Discuss historical facts, changes, and growth in Church history
    2. Define terms related to Church history
    3. Discuss the role of saints within the Church
    4. Discuss the impact of the Vatican Councils
    5. Define the Commandments and the Beatitudes
    6. Discuss what it means to see with the "eyes of faith"
    7. Recognize Jesus in others in each day of their lives

    In PreAlgebra, students will:

    1. Perform basic operations (+, -, , ) with fractions, decimals, percents
      1. Use rounding to estimate percentage problems before solving, and use their estimation to determine the reasonableness of a calculated answer
      2. Understand how percentages relate to taxes, sales, and markup
        1. Calculate the final prices of items in a word problem scenario involving multiple percentage calculations
    2. Perform basic operations (+, -, , ) with integers
      1. Understand that the absolute value of a number represents the distance to zero, and that opposite numbers are the same distance from zero, but in opposite directions
    3. Perform basic operations (+, -, , ) with monomials
      1. Develop the “shortcut” rules for powers of monomials by first using the using their definitions
    4. Demonstrate multiple problem solving strategies when facing word problems
    5. Identify geometric figures, both 2D and 3D, and use their properties to solve word problems
      1. Calculate perimeter, area, and volume using appropriate unit labels
    6. Use the properties of triangles to solve for missing side lengths
    7. Understand transformations in the coordinate plane
    8. Identify transformations which preserve congruence (translations, rotations, reflections) and those that do not (dilations)

    In Algebra, students will:

    4. Understand that the transformations on quadratics are also applicable to many other parent functions
    5. Demonstrate multiple problem solving strategies when facing word problems

    1. Identify the origins of civilization in North America
      1. Understand the cultural impact of the four major early civilizations (Olmec, Inca, Maya, Aztec)
    2. Understand the beginnings of European exploration in North America
    3. Visualize the spread of European settlement in North America
      1. Understand the lasting impact that the culture of early settlers has on today’s government
    4. Understand the impact European exploration had on Native Americans
    5. Identify the main causes of the American Revolution
      1. See how the disagreements with England led to the specific language in the Declaration of Independence that is still relevant today
    6. Read the Constitution with a critical eye, linking its origin with its impact today
    7. See how the early days of the American Republic set precedents for our current government and culture
    8. Understand how Westward Expansion and the idea of the American Dream impacted Native Americans
    9. Compare and contrast pre- and post-Civil War society and understand the echoes of those differences in today’s world
     

    In Science, students will:

    1. Recognize and use good experimental design 
    2. Collect and analyze data then draw conclusions
    3. Set up and interpret tables and graphs
    4. Use scientific tools and equipment such as balances, thermometers, glassware, etc.
    5. Measure and accurately use the International System of Measurement
    6. Work safely and collaboratively in the science lab
    7. Use computers and the internet to complete scientific research and present findings 
    8. Understand concepts and use vocabulary related to topics in the study of Newton’s Laws, Energy, Waves, Force and Motion
    9. Understand how to balance a chemical equation and use a periodic table. 
    10. Understand how to make and solve a Bohr model. 
     

    Students will achieve these goals through content and skills such as: 

    1. Scientific process skills including observation, measurement, experimental procedures, variables, and models
    2. Different types of Energy : potential, thermal , and kinetic 
    3. Force and Motion, velocity, speed, forces, and collisions 
    4. Newton’s Three Laws
    5. Electric Forces and magnetic forces
    6. Force fields and how they transfer energy through space
    7. Sounds waves, electrical waves, and light waves
    8. How we use waves for communication 
    9. Writing Chemical Formulas and balancing chemical equations
    10. The periodic table of elements
