  • 7th GRADE - CURRICULUM 

    In Religion, students will:

    1. Be able to explain the answers to questions that are pertinent to their Catholic faith as they prepare for Confirmation
    2. Volunteer for service projects within the community
    3. Explain the Gifts of the Holy Spirit
    4. Identify the Evangelists and theme of each Gospel
    5. Explore the purpose, content and structure of the Pauline letters
    6. Be able to define terms related to liturgical seasons
    7. Recognize common elements and rites of the sacraments
    8. Become familiar with sources and kinds of prayer
    9. Recognize and appreciate the real presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament
    10. Memorize various prayers
     

    Students will achieve these goals through content and skills such as:

    In English/Language Arts & Literature, students will:

    In Math, students will:

    1. Perform basic operations (+, -, , ) with fractions, decimals, percents
      1. Understand that percents, decimals, and fractions are different ways of expressing equivalent numbers, and that in a given problem converting to a different number might make the problem easier to solve
      2. Use rounding to estimate percentage problems before solving, and use their estimation to determine the reasonableness of a calculated answer
      3. Understand how percentages relate to taxes, sales, and markup
        1. Calculate the final prices of items in a word problem scenario involving multiple percentage calculations
    2. Perform basic operations (+, -, , ) with integers
      1. Understand that the absolute value of a number represents the distance to zero, and that opposite numbers are the same distance from zero, but in opposite directions
    3. Demonstrate multiple problem solving strategies when facing word problems
    4. Identify geometric figures, both 2D and 3D, and use their properties to solve word problems
      1. Calculate perimeter, area, and volume, and surface area, using appropriate unit labels
    5. Understand that variables can represent any number in an expression, but that equations can be used to find the value of the variable that makes the equation true
      1. Use properties to rewrite numeric and algebraic expressions, understanding that the properties (when used correctly) generate equivalent expressions
      2. Solve one- and two-step equations and inequalities using integers, fractions, and decimals
    6. Understand the difference between a ratio, rate, and proportion

    6. Identify and apply researching and report writing skills 
    7. Relate current events to past historical events
    8. Evaluate information from a source
    9. Distinguish cause and effect relationships in the history of western civilization 
    10. Identify political events of the past and recognize their impact on current governmental forms
    11. Compare and contrast the cultures and former governmental systems of Eastern and Western Europe
     

    Students will achieve these goals through content and skills such as: 

    1. The Early Americas - Incas, Aztecs, and Mayans
    2. Europe in the Middle Ages
    3. Renaissance and Reformation
    4. The Growth of Christitany in Europe 
    5. Period of Exploration 
    6. Growths of Nations
    7. World War I and II
    8. Enlightenment and Revolution 
    9. Global Challenges 
     

    In Science, students will:

    1. Recognize and use good experimental design 
    2. Collect and analyze data then draw conclusions
    3. Set up and interpret tables and graphs
    4. Use scientific tools and equipment such as balances, thermometers, glassware, etc.
    5. Measure and accurately use the International System of Measurement
    6. Work safely and collaboratively in the science lab
    7. Use computers and the internet to complete scientific research and present findings 
    8. Understand concepts and use vocabulary related to topics in the study of cells, ecosystems, human anatomy, genetics and reproductions
    9. Analyze and interpret evidence from the fossil record to infer patterns of environmental change resulting in extinction and changes to life forms throughout the history of the Earth
     

    Students will achieve these goals through content and skills such as: 

    1. Scientific process skills including observation, measurement, experimental procedures, variables, and models
    2. Cell parts and viruses
    3. Cell processes, including diffusion, osmosis, active transport, photosynthesis, respiration, and fermentation
    4. Cell reproduction : mitosis, meiosis, and the role of DNA
    5. The Organ Systems : how they function and how they all work together as a whole
    6. Heredity and genetics : punnett squares, mutations,and genetic disorders
    7. The process of adaptation and natural selection
    8. Ecosystems and how they change over time
    9. How animals interact in ecosystems 
    10. Multicellular organisms and Unicellular organisms 
    11. The causes and spreading of disease
