    In Religion, students will:

    1. Compare and contrast Old Testament and New Testament writings
    2. Identify key Old Testament figures and their significance
    3. Identify various Old Testament and New Testament themes
    4. Define religious terms found from text
    5. Define Commandments and Beatitudes
    6. Identify and understand the celebration of the Liturgy
    7. Identify the Mass parts and their significance
    8. Identify the Sacraments and Seasons of the Liturgical Year
    9. Identify feasts of the year as celebrated by Catholics
     

    In Literature, students will:

    1. Show an interest in prose and poetry
    2. Evaluate prose and poetry
    3. Identify and comprehend components of prose and poetry
    4. Expand vocabulary
    5. Read independently a variety of literature and report on them
    6. Listen for details and meanings
     

    Students will achieve these goals through content and skills such as: 

    1. Identifying literature components (character, setting, plot, conflict, climax, resolution)
    2. Distinguishing between
      1. fiction/nonfiction
      2. biography/autobiography
    3. Separating facts from opinions
    4. Using context clues to infer word meanings
    5. Summarizing main ideas from selection
    6. Making inferences while reading from stated facts
    7. Stating conclusions from the selections
    8. Reporting on independently-read books in various ways
     

    In Grammar, students will:

    1. Communicate effectively through oral and written expression
    2. Distinguish between different sentence types
    3. Identify main types of speech
    4. Write and speak in complete sentences
    5. Use correct capitalization and punctuation
    6. Organize information into paragraphs
     

    Students will achieve these goals through content and skills such as: 

    1. Identifying nouns - proper, common, and possessive
    2. Identifying verbs - linking, action, tenses, principle parts and usage of irregular verbs
    3. Identifying pronouns and antecedents
    4. Identifying adjectives and predicate adjectives (and in comparison)
    5. Identifying adverbs (and in comparison)
    6. Identifying prepositions and their objects
    7. Identifying conjunctions and interjections
    8. Subject verb agreement
    9. Punctuation

    In Writing, students will:

    1. Communicate effectively through written expression
    2. Write effectively with different styles of writing
    3. Become familiar with / proficient in the writing process
    4. Pre-write, draft, revise, edit/proofread, and present information
     

    Students will achieve these goals through content and skills such as: 

    1. The Writing Process
    2. Personal writing
    3. Descriptive writing
    4. Narrative writing
    5. Expository writing
    6. Persuasive writing
    7. Poetry writing
     

    In Math, students will:

    1. Perform basic operations (+, -, , ) with fractions, decimals, percents
      1. Understand that percents, decimals, and fractions are different ways of expressing equivalent numbers, and that in a given problem converting to a different number might make the problem easier to solve
      2. Use rounding to estimate percentage problems before solving, and use their estimation to determine the reasonableness of a calculated answer
    2. Perform basic operations (+, -, , ) with integers
      1. Understand that the absolute value of a number represents the distance to zero, and that opposite numbers are the same distance from zero, but in opposite directions
    3. Demonstrate multiple problem solving strategies when facing word problems
    4. Identify geometric figures, both 2D and 3D, and use their properties to solve word problems
      1. Calculate perimeter, area, and volume, using appropriate unit labels
    5. Understand that variables can represent any number in an expression, but that equations can be used to find the value of the variable that makes the equation true
      1. Use properties to rewrite numeric and algebraic expressions, understanding that the properties (when used correctly) generate equivalent expressions
      2. Solve one-step equations and inequalities using positive integers, fractions, and decimals
    6. Understand the difference between a ratio, rate, and proportion

    In Social Studies, students will:

    1. Locate important landforms, bodies of water, countries, and the 7 continents 
    2. Apply map and globe skills
    3. Use study skills with content material
    4. Identify and apply oral presentation skills
    5. Define and use social studies terms
    6. Compare and contrast the cultures, governmental systems , and individuals all the way back to the Mesoptomian empire 
    7. Identify and apply researching and report writing skills 
    8. Analyze geographic conditions and explain how they affect the development of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas
    9. Relate current events to past historical events
    10. Evaluate information from a source
    11. Investigate resources and land use in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas
    12. Learn how to use a political map, physical map, resource map, population map, and climate map
    13. Analyze religion and belief systems of a place to determine their varying impact on people, groups, and cultures
    14. Describe trade patterns and how they influence the movement of resources, goods, and services
     

    Students will achieve these goals through content and skills such as: 

    1. Know the 4 types of Early Hominids 
    2. Mesopotamia : how these first civilizations impacted our world today
    3. Know how to locate countries, cities, continents, masses of water on a map 
    4. The kingdoms of Egypt- how they worked as a society, how their engineering paved the way for building today, and about their trading network
    5. India - origins hinduism, origins of buddhism, and the rise of India 
    6. China - the different dynasties and how they affected China and The Silk Road
    7. Learn about Judaism - traditions of Judaism, what they study, how and where it developed, and we will compare it to other cultures
    8. Greece- Mythology, Sparta, Athens, government, Alexander the Great, Greek achievements, and how Greece is still around today
    9. Romans / Rome - their geography, their Republic government Augustus, the rise of Christianity, the battles, and their people
     

    In Science, students will:

    1. Recognize and use good experimental design 
    2. Collect and analyze data then draw conclusions
    3. Set up and interpret tables and graphs
    4. Use scientific tools and equipment such as balances, thermometers, glassware, etc.
    5. Use a map to identify longitude and latitude on a map 
    6. Use the Geologic Time Scale to measure how old Earth is 
    7. Measure and accurately use the International System of Measurement
    8. Work safely and collaboratively in the science lab
    9. Use computers and the internet to complete scientific research and present findings 
    10. Understand concepts and use vocabulary related to topics in the study of the atmosphere and weather, oceans, rocks and minerals, outer space, seasons, weathering and erosion, gravity, natural resources, and earth's layers
     

    Students will achieve these goals through content and skills such as: 

    1. Scientific process skills including observation, measurement, experimental procedures, variables, and models
    2. Analyze and interpret data on natural hazards to forecast future catastrophic events and inform the development of technologies to mitigate their effects 
    3. Layers and characteristics of Earth’s atmosphere
    4. Components of weather : temperature, barometer, and anemometer
    5. Weather patterns, global winds, cloud types, severe weather, erosion, sedimentation and weather maps
    6. Ocean currents and climatic effects, ocean waves, tides, and ecosystems
    7. Characteristics and identification of common minerals and rocks
    8. Climate change and how it has affected our Earth
    9. Population dynamics and Land use
    10. Internal processes within the Earth cause a dynamic system that creates mountain chains, volcanoes and earthquakes, and drives the cycling of matter 
    11. Understand the Solar system
    12.  Earth - moon system and causes of seasons and eclipses
